Gen Art, the national
non-profit organization that showcases emerging talent in fashion
film, and the visual arts, is pleased to announce its second annual
international fashion design competition, Styles 2000. The Styles
2000 runway show will be held on Tuesday, April 4th, 2000 at the
Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 West 18th St in New York City, where
twenty-five pre-selected finalists will compete for $5,000 awards
in the categories of women’s sportswear, eveningwear, avant garde,
menswear, and accessories. Five winners will be selected by a
panel of top fashion professionals from the design, retail, publishing
and style industries.
Due to the unprecedented
success of the first annual Styles competition, Gen Art is continuing
this competition into the new millennium. Submissions are sent
from all over the world including top fashion schools in Paris,
London, New York and Copenhagen, as well as from independent young
designers, artists and students. A selection of top editors, stylists
and retail buyers review all entries at a prescreening event on
March 17th, narrowing hundreds of entries to the twenty-five finalists.
Last year’s Fashion
Panel Judges included Polly Mellon, Diane Von Furstenberg, Betsey
Johnson, Richard Martin and Russell Simmons to name a few. Mark
Eisen, Patricia Field, Todd Oldham, Norma Kamali and Kate Spade
are just a few of the confirmed judges who will be on this year’s
jury panel. The event will be hosted by a Surprise Fashion Design
star coupled with a Supermodel Spokesperson provided by IMG Model
Management who is also sponsoring all the models for the runway
event.
Since 1995, Gen
Art has been the premier organization supporting emerging fashion
talent and has shown over 100 designers including Chaiken & Capone,
Orfi, Rafe, Rebecca Danenberg, Rebecca Taylor, Shoshanna and William
Calvert who have all gone on to build successful businesses since
their debut at Gen Art.
